It wasn’t speed ups, it was more fast travel.  The issue with the last 2 seasons of GoT is that it felt like people were getting places instantly.  It took MONTHS to travel from Winterfell to King’s Landing.  By season 8, they had whole armies moved there in a matter of minutes.
