See, they did a thing during "Let's Kill Hitler", where Matt Smith's Doctor had been poisoned and was trying to get the Tardis to present an avatar that didn't just make him feel guilty. Eventually it turned up Child Amy, and they did a nice thing where we *heard* her say something reassuring, but were never shown

OK, fine:

Yeah, I feel like being able to show it to someone who's never watched the show is a pretty important acid test for "perfect". There aren't many perfect episodes.

Ha, yes, that was bugging me and it totally was.

…see, I know that New Who isn't interested in that kind of stuff, but it would actually be a completely valid bit of sci-fi to ASK whether the same man, subject to the same stimuli, would do the same thing.

Thing is, there's usually some conceit to justify it - either the "one man" will be talking to someone who is implied to be there in spirit or on the end of a phone or whatever, OR it will be established that this is a somewhat surreal situation.

It's worth seeing once. It's vaguely similar to this.

I don't think I was at all vague!

If you're confused, it's because the episode is an absolute fucking mess.

Yeah, as much as I think this blog post in particular is completely batshit, I'd need to read around it to be sure that it's not just normal for his blog.

Unfortunately this is something that "majority" types struggle with. They hear about sexism, racism, homophobia and such, and they assume that everything that sucks in their own life is basically the same… not realising that, actually, women and minorities mostly have to put up with all the same shit AS WELL AS

"When we get home, access to sex is strictly controlled by the woman."

Honestly, the fact that you're talking about this show in terms of Redshirts is kind of telling. For all the potential for maudlin sentiment, Who has always been at its least appealing when it seemed to be treating characters as disposable fodder.

"It feels like pretty genuinely awful timing for “Face The Raven” to be about a refugee camp, given how refugees have become such a politically charged topic in the last couple weeks. But since this story doesn’t draw any of the kind of allegorical parallels that the Zygon two-parter did, I’m going to go ahead and

Spooky Fish is the episode that converted me from humouring South Park to absolutely loving it. It really seemed like a huge step change in quality, which is weird considering it came most of the way through a season.

Ha, nah. He really did buy poppers from a bar thinking that they were some kind of drink. Fortunately I was able to educate him before he knocked back a shot of amyl.
