Okay, I’ll bite. Why not.
Okay, I’ll bite. Why not.
White anxiety over identity is so real and toxic. These people are actually doing all this shit and enacting all this policy because they’re afraid of America becoming a less white nation... in the future... when they’ll all be fucking dead. Despite the fact that we need immigration to keep our working adult populatio…
They’re just casting the net wider, and wider. Eventually they’re going to start cannibalizing themselves.
I’m more angry at his shitty attitude than I am at the practical effects of his not voting, which I admit were negligible. But I had numerous conversations with people during the election who espoused the same apathetic viewpoint, and there were far too many takes from lefty commentators and columnists which…
I guess I’m one of the mythical “undecided voters,” in that I am undecided as to whether I will vote at all. There are surely more undecided voters like me than of the other type, those civic-minded numbskulls who populate televised town halls and Frank Luntz focus groups because they are positive they will vote, but…
Betsy DeVos belongs in a sealed barrel, encased by concrete, and dropped in the Marianas Trench.
That’s a perfectly reasonable opinion/stance to take.
I work at one of those companies, in one of those places (and I’m a black woman). One big reason is the salaries and benefits. At even medium-sized tech companies and startups, they can be out of this world compared to what you get in other industries. I don’t pay health insurance premiums; I have emergency back-up…
I grew up in a very diverse environment. It had never occurred to me that a company wouldn’t want the best person for the job.
Things said to me as a child: “You are a pretty bright kid, you should think about taking comp sci next semester as an elective, you might be good at it.” (I took comp sci and was good at it.) “You have pretty good verbal skills, you should take a foreign language, you might enjoy it.” (I took french, et je peux parle…
“encouraged to join STEM programs”
Good point, and many of these huge tech companies do. But those really are “drop in the bucket” programs. Great for the kids that are born near the corporate headquarters of Google or Apple, but not so much for anywhere else.
Google can fix problem 2 if they wanted to.
Well they can sponsor programs for those under-funded, minority-filled schools. I’m not saying it’s they’re responsibility to do so, but that’s just one possible move to make.
The two biggest Google offices in the US are in Silicon Valley and Seattle, not exactly places with thriving Black communities, and both places that are pushing many Black and Latinx residents out of affordable housing. Sure it’s a good job, but if you’re one of brown faces at work, and not represented outside of work…
Excellent article.
Watch how quickly this gets twisted into restaurants aren’t supporting the troops or some shit like that.
Agreed. Sounds like it was just 1 a-hole on the base, but hopefully he gets hit with a bunch socks filled with soap tonight.
I was hoping this would be the response. If you want to be assholes to the delivery people, don’t get access to the delivery service.
