That's what I try to tell myself for the most part. It doesn't anger me, most our customers tip well and there's always at least one or two tables that even out a bad tip and make it alright. Other people do know the tipping standards and just choose to ignore it, I have a couple of friends like that, which saddens me.

I've never heard it the way you use it. I've always heard it as being the children of immigrants, so I am a first generation American seeing as how my parents immigrated here from Jamaica. I think, at least with this usage, is that it's just a short way of saying first generation born in America.
