There were changes in the past year of how the NYT children's book lists were calculating bestsellers. Because YA has changed so drastically in the past 10 years, the way the list was calculated no longer made sense with how the books were being published (you'd have to search Publisher's Weekly or google the changes

As a YA writer and also a member of Romance Writers of America, I actually do *not* see YA as a transitional gateway to more traditional romance, though I do feel it's a bit of a lost opportunity for the romance book industry. People reading YA seem to just keep reading YA. Romance readers often say their origin story

This is so ludicrous. I read about it too. UGH

This is SO interesting. Makes sense.

Thank you AV Club for this interview! YA lit is my wheelhouse. This is a great collection of authors, thank you for doing this well.

No, no, you are not wrong on questioning this vibe. I think he's just off from the subtle hand needed to play that laid back early-GenX THING he's trying on. He's like a precursor to a hipster. His brand of laid back is coated with self-importance. He showed up on Parenthood but at least we were supposed to hate him

Honestly what I remember about post-9/11 early days was Alicia Keys on Rolling Stone and her New York song, SNL with Guiliani, and this girl I knew from church who said her career as an aspiring travel agent was over because nobody wanted to fly.

Weird, I don't remember Zoolander coming out soon after 9/11. That's one of those movies that felt like it had always been around and was suddenly everywhere, like Austin Powers in the late 90s.

A lot of people love that episode, but I always thought it was corny. It's no In The Field Where I Died level strange bad, but like, dumb bad.*

I also irrationally dislike John Corbett! I wonder what that's about?

Finger jockeys…

Yes; the DD was in half of season 8 and the season 9 series finale. I'd quit watching by then, but i did a rewatch recently thanks to the AV Club reviews pulling me in and had a new appreciation for Agent Doggett and Scully in those last seasons. Reyes is kind of meh and season 9 is painful, but there are some good

Genuine LOL

Probably because they get away with it until you get a Zero F***s hero like Gillian.

Of course they did.

Good point! I would so rather see this side of Edith than more endless secret keeping about Marigold.

The Mad TV 20th anniversary special got me pretty nostalgic. I think they had more consistently funny sketches.

I thought the review was great. I barely look at the letter grades anymore. I honestly didn't even look at it!

That scene was the best part of the episode for me. The shots of the decaying house were beautiful. The actor who played Reresby nailed it too.
