Melania Trump is hardly a stand-in for American women, she is neither a victim nor she is lacking agency. Rather she’s an active participant working to construct Donald Trump’s narrative readily available to put a gauzy domestic veil on his racism and misogyny.

Yeah, I do not condone people making fun of her appearance or slut-shaming her (seriously people, fucking stop). But sympathy? Nah. She gon’ be okay.

I also don’t like the narrative that if a woman isn’t smiling all the time, she must be unhappy/bitchy/whatever. Weren’t we just defending Hillary from this nonsense?

Brown’s offensive reference to the wrong ethnic origin goes nicely with Ansari’s joke about people telling him to “go back to...the country you’re from!”. His follow up is that the racists tend to not be geography buffs.

Agreed. This is truly frightening. The best I can say is let’s all join neighborhood committees - this especially goes for those living in Trump heavy districts. We’re going to need all the protection we can get.
