Was it a real heady high?
Was it a real heady high?
I liked your comment way better than the feature.
Agreed, the platform sucks (Pied Piper?). BS mentioned something about how Grantland was too tailored to reading on PCs and The Ringer would have to be more geared for phones/tablets. Probably similar transformation taking place at the AV Club. It sucks for the "bored at work" crowd, that's for sure. Zach Lowe is…
I'm going to give The Ringer a little longer before calling it Putrid, there have been a couple good pieces. Definitely no Grantland though. I'd have to say my favorite sports column by far is Block and Tackle, so the AV Club still has that going for it.
Try to give Deloused and Frances the Mute another shot first, the solo stuff is generally either really weird or b-level Volta outtakes. Early Volta can be really rewarding if you're in the mood for something proggy and cinematic and you can kinda make the decision to ignore the pretension of it all.
As a huge TMV and ATD-I fan, I always wished Omar would just take the best ideas from his solo stuff and then really spend the time to craft them, get a decent producer and come out with some Deloused or Frances the Mute level shit. It's like the moments are still there, but he gets bored too fast to really give them…
9 year old Fanny also cheated heavily at Sim City 3000 - had to turn disasters off so I could let the population skyrocket while I was at school all day and eventually get those Launch Arcos to blast off.
I gotta go with the old Tie Fighter game for PC. I don't know that I even tried without invincibility on; it was so damn hard for 9 year old Fanny.
Sounds like you better start creating your own masterpiece then :)
The band Tool. I would always joke that they sat in a room and asked 'what would Fanny Alger like the most?' before writing Lateralus.
Any suggestions for entry points into his catalog?
I'm not saying I disagree with you, but can you elaborate?
EXIIIT LIGHT-AH! ENNNTER NIGHT-AH!
sigh… oh how I pine for you JLD
What Rush song would be your hatesong Spaghetti?
Also hat tip to the AV club, my introduction to the band was their excellent review of Midnight Organ Fight - bought the album immediately after reading.
I had the same misgivings, but I think they pull it off well. The National influence is apparent, but with a distinctly Frightened Rabbit twist (ha).
I'm a big Frightened Rabbit fan, so I'm biased here, but I think this is a really solid album. I'd give it an A- and put it just behind Midnight Organ Fight and Winter of Mixed Drinks (I didn't love Pedestrian Verse as much as some, but still think it was solid, "December's Traditions" is a stone cold classic). I'm…
Oh man, hadn't seen that. Classic. "Have you ever been to a volcano?"
I think he just means it's less interesting.
