Secretary of State isn’t substatial? Trump’s dad sold him his first building for $1. Trump has defaulted on over 10 billion in loans. He has filed bankruptcy 4 times. Trump hasn’t ever balanced a checkbook either, whenever it gets too lopsided he files for bankruptcy and screws everyone over.

You might be missing a few chromosomes there buddy.

Other industries are much more dependent on having politicians in their pockets. Many lobby heavily to both parties and aren’t usually too open and critical of either candidate.

On some level DC’s problem is overexposure. In the ‘70s and ‘80s there was a heroic cinematic Superman, but those movies had a declining rate of success, so maybe the studio figures what people really want is a dark, broody Superman (which is what the aborted Burton/Cage version from the ‘90s would have been). It’s

Well sure. And hiring Favreau to direct Iron Man was a stroke of genius, because he understood things like characterization and humor, which wouldn’t have been the case if they’d gotten a hacky action director like Simon West or Rob Cohen to handle the movie. But nobody thought Favreau was essential to the franchise.

Who’s the mysterious gal the party Bruce Wayne can’t help but be attracted to? Who’s the mysterious gal that outsmarts one of the supposedly smartest guys (Sure in BvS he’s as smart as a ton of bricks, but you know what I mean)? Who turns out to have some sort of mysterious past? Who shows up in the nick of time to

Well it’s simple, Snyder is an Objectivist, which is a pseudo-philosophy about how we should not care about other people and should only care about ourselves and that being a greedy asshole is the mark of a good person. He cannot comprehend a hero being a hero for altruistic reasons, which is why his Superman is more

What separates Nolan and Burton’s Batman movies from the DC Murderverse is that the earlier movies are good movies and Snyder’s are not good movies. So even if you find complaints in how the characters are treating compared to Marvel, at least they’re high quality films on their own merit.

Which is why I brought up

I think it’s really hard to overstate the importance of corporate culture in all this. Warner Bros. tends to be more of a studio that invests in creators and gives them freedom and Disney has traditionally been much more about the brand and conforming to one guy’s vision.

The Auteur model can work just fine as it did with Burton and Nolan but just like any other type of monarchy, its totally dependent on the vision of the person in charge.

And in Snyder, DC has gone from Augustus to Caligula.

Agreed..EVERY word... +1

Let’s see.

It had been so long since I read the story that I don’t actually recall Red’s ethnicity coming up

The few times his races comes up doesn’t really affect either his character or the story. Who Roland is is not dependent on being white, it’s dependent on his family, his friends, his backstory, and his personality.

The only thing from the books where I remember Roland’s race played a big role was when Detta called him a honkey, and to me that was always more about Detta’s hatred towards everyone rather than just a race thing. Where there other instances where Roland’s race gets brought up?

See, I was in the opposite camp - I was in the middle of moving when Batman v Superman came out and didn’t end up seeing it until like three weeks later. And so in those three weeks, not only was I busy, but I was actively avoiding anything related to the film and had no idea until reading this article that this scene

I always watch the credits and I hate it when cinema workers try to get rid of guests while the movie is still running. I get that most of the time there’s no more part of the story, but it’s still part of the movie-going experience (and some credits have great design or good music). Making the guests feel unwelcome

So, the big thing to distance them from Marvel is that rather than world-ending stakes, the villain is just planning to take the Justice League on a magic carpet ride? Well that’s nice.

I work at a cinema. Trust me, people sit through the credits of EVERY fucking superhero movie regardless, just in case. You think it’d be easy to pull your phone out and Google “does this movie have a post credits scene?” while you’re sitting there, or maybe ask the guy standing there with a broom tapping his foot
