It gets tricky when you compare features and performance of 1999 models to 2024 models. Cars and trucks are almost universally more well-equipped than their 25 year old contemporaries.

IIRC, the SS was sold in the USA purely out of an internal agreement within GM. The North American division was obligated to import X cars from the Australian factory, or something like that. Therefore there was no incentive to spend marketing $ to advertise the car.
