The Phoenix is something you build up to over multiple movies (like Thanos). You can’t tell this story without having the audience feeling deep emotional connections to the characters involved.

I’ve been watching anime since the 1980s.  It has not always been like this.

This is just my opinion, but this just feels like where anime, etc are right now.

It won’t be a retcon if Kylo was lying. It will really depend on how well they tell the story.  The title could mean a lot of things though.
