One day I was sitting on the bus behind a girl with headphones on with a guy started calling her "Blondie," and just generally telling her how he'd like to get to know her. He wasn't particularly crude about it, but it was clear his attention was unwelcome. But he kept trying, and she kept replying in monosyllables

I've decided this means cheap Chinese food is good for me. Because SCIENCE.

slap him anyway. til his ears fly off.

I completely agree with you 100%. And everyone is assuming that she had an alcoholic drink, How do we know that they didn't just offer her a pepsi? Or even Orange soda.

But if you are low income, your are not supposed to be financially savvy. duh.

I read this story off of a reddit link, and a lot of people also came to her defense in keeping the car. The fact is, a known vehicle with a known maintenance history is a relatively smart decision over selling and getting a possible clunker. Controlling risk is just as important as controlling finances.

Agreed. If there's anything good that comes out of this story, it's that at least I learned that a brave and great and wonderful girl, Jada, exists in this godforsaken cesspool called earth.

Your tale is horrible and I in no way meant to minimize what has surely been traumatic for you. To be falsely accused and humiliated (potentially - not assuming) in your workplace is no small matter and if possible that woman deserves to be punished for what she did.

So she deserves unwanted male attention because she likes to hit it and quit it? Because once a woman sleeps with a man she is committed to love him forever? Your boys got dumped and need to get over it.

Sorry that you are being yelled at for talking about your experience. I really dislike how the fact that a few women lie about serious shit gets glossed over. I don't think people realize what a major disservice those women do to actual victims and it's an issue I wish the feminist community would take seriously.

Yeah those bitches be lyin'. Totally. And obvious when it's a he-said she-said situation what HE says is totally the believable story because lying bitches be lyin'.

He said - she said, and everyone knows bitchez be crazy liars, amirite?

I'm going to rant here rather than in a response, because this is an open letter to people who think "the jury is still out":

I just love that this was DIRECTLY below yours.

As Cecily mentioned in the interview, a lot of inmates don't have media contacts. It's hard to arrange an interview in Rikers, and she has a large network on the outside who helped me coordinate it — I would have liked to speak to more inmates, but, again, it's very hard to get in touch with someone in Rikers.

Being locked up is traumatic and horrifying. People like to think only really evil people get sentenced to time. That's not the case at all.

Looking forward to her press conference.

Wait, you're telling me that prison is actually horrifying and degrading, and not a chance for outside observers to vicariously revel in the crazy shenanigans of a bunch of rag-tag lesbians and hastily assembled racial stereotypes? Jenji Kohan you have misled me again!!

I'm sure people will disagree with me, but it seems to me that parents cannot let their young children play with the unvaccinated. Social opprobrium might have a coercive effect. I hate to victimize children who already have the terrible fate to have selfish, stupid parents, but it's the only tactic that might work.
