At the time, a lot of people were also very hung up on him marrying a virgin (eyeroll), which also (generally) means someone young.

But has there been any actual word/response from the Palace - other than anonymous “Royal sources” who have been ‘quoted’ in tabloids in that same perfect news-quote manner all anonymous tabloid sources seem to speak?
Show us on the doll where the royals touched you.
Imagine being this insane.
Don't forget that after disappearing at sea without a trace, they still went ahead and named a swimming pool complex after Harold Holt.
This episode reminded me of a weird aspect of the Westminster system: most Prime Ministers end their time in office spurned by their own party and humiliated. We saw it with Churchill, Eden, MacMillan, and Heath. The only exception on the show was Wilson, who retired due to illness. Looking ahead, the same thing…
Meghan Markle's shitbag father, is that you?
wut
I’ve been posting on and off on the AV Club for like a decade and this is one of the hottest takes in all that time.
When Anne says Charles is older than his years, she doesn’t mean the good things about being old (perspective, wisdom, patience), she means that he’s stuffy, rigid, hostile to change, cantankerous, and out of touch.
This shot is brilliant and should be shown in any film study class.
I didn’t even notice the antlers symbolism of her going down the stairs. As clever a metaphor as that might be I can’t help but think of Dany and the dragon wings in the finale of Game of Thrones, and it makes me cringe. Nobody can ever do that type of shot again without reminding people of that.
Pedantic note: Thatcher was the Head of Government, not the Head of State. Indeed, ‘what happens if the head of government doesn’t want to go?’ is one of the exact reasons why most countries have a Head of State who ISN’T also the Head of Government...
Uh, are you....fever dreaming right now?
I think they did explain it. Diana (obviously wrongfully) thought Charles’ problem with the “Uptown Girl” performance was that it was PUBLIC and she was upstaging him. SO if she did another one that was private and meant only for him, he should have loved it. She was performing only for him and is not some singing…
I was surprised by how little Fergie we got. I assume some of it might be because of the current drama with Prince Andrew or even the slightly less current shenanigans she got up to and just wanting to avoid it entirely.
O’Connor nailed the body language, and that miserable self-pitying facial expression.
It’d been a while, but last night, I rewatched The Queen for the first time in probably 5 years, possibly more. To an extent, that was deliberate; I’d forgotten a lot (like the stag until you brought it up in a review), but one thing that stuck in my mind was Mirren’s performance being so superb that I felt it’d be…
From most accounts, she was able to spend more time with Andrew and Edward in their childhoods than with Charles and Anne; but the latter (especially Charles) are much more the focus of the series and also of public attention.
