I've worked with quite a few programmers. They've run the gamut from "totally socially inept" to "can charm the pants off people". There has been no clear pattern.

Big logic hole. TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) works without any ground based input. Most airliners are required to have TCAS.

We (pilots) have procedures for lost comms, including traffic pattern procedures. Diversion to start with.

Don't even get me started. LAX, with two landing runways, would require 1h40m to land 200 planes under optimal conditions if everything went perfectly (never does). 200 planes incoming to LAX means most are not even over California, let alone talking to SoCal Approach.

As a pilot, I can safely say that I can land without any assistance from ground-based software. ;)

They couldn't really hand it to Burbank, as tower only handles planes that are close. Diversions are definitely the option to go with though.

Still my favorite line from 2 Broke Girls.

We'll seee. Jezza is not the best at doing what he is told by The Beeb...

The suspension is adjustable into three settings: Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus. The majority of my highway driving was spent in comfort and backroads were in sport. Sport plus is for sadists.

Aeryn Sun from Farscape.

I am absurdly interested in science. I've read science fiction (and a fair smattering of fantasy) for over three decades. I have a solid grounding in basic science and technology, both through formal study (pilot) and from layman's study.

Your comments show up immediately instead of hiding in the pending pile. I think.

Another option is the "onion" or "tiered" approach, using different networks for different things. Here is mine.

It was artillery that dominated the Great War, killing more people from 1914 to 1918 than any other weapon.

Here in HK, one of the main electronics chains is officially listing the phones at HK$3500-4000 (US$450-500) over Apple price. Ironically they have no stock right now.

I wanted to like The Newsroom. In the end I enjoyed watching it but I didn't really like it very much. I certainly don't miss it. As you say the characters were completely unsympathetic.

Clark having the hots for the wrong girl was kinda the point, at least in the first few seasons. Lana was the unattainable but ultimately hollow ideal, while Chloe was accessible and full of substance and thus somehow less desirable to chase.

I think the expression you are looking for is: "... have reached rock bottom and started digging..."

Are you saying that pilots can tell ATC to go F themselves and get away with it?
