new hope blew up a whole planet, dismembered a wolf man, visbile and clear depictions of individuals getting shot, the tortue of leia, the charred and burnt corpses of luke's aunt and uncle.

i dont think its fair to write off the starwars films as kids movies that befit a saturday morning cartoon... especially when the movies (including the prequels) depict things like- assassination, dismemberment, children slaughter, the destruction of entire planets, torture, implied rape, revelations, betrayal, mass…

you are half right. star wars BECAME comercial pandering. the first few films had some kind of artistic vision and inspiration behind them. lucas went through hell to get them made... especially for new hope.
