There's also the fact that the series is ostensibly based on the book "Orange is the New Black" and I would imagine that part of getting the rights to that story involve keeping that character (based on the author) a central part of the show.

I honestly thought the "romance" was the worst-handled part of the movie. For one thing, Wonder Woman should not be defined by Steve Trevor, and she certainly should not have "learned her big lesson" from his act of sacrifice a the end. I felt it diminished the character.
"Shining Star" is so very very catchy and then suddenly Mickey Rourke is rapping about Trotsky and I start thinking, "Wow, even David Bowie has a tough time making lyrics about scabs and lice work."
What, no love for "David Bowie in Bertolt Brecht's Baal"?
You figured it out! We've totally all been bs'ing.
There are certainly times in pop culture and history where there is an "Emperor's New Clothes" situation going on, but making that one's default assumption whenever one holds a minority view says a lot more about ego and insecurity than it points to any actual insight.
Considering the frustration some people are feeling that time is passing by and it's getting more and more clear that we're not going to see much of Twin Peaks in "Twin Peaks" once this is over (and before you get out the pitchforks, none of that is meant to say this is bad or unfair or I'm not enjoying it, it just is…
Not only was it probably an incredibly difficult production to direct, but Chavkin re-did her staging three times in three very different venues. She not only deserved the award, but it would have been so wonderful to actually have two deserving female directors win in one night.
I think that offends me more than almost anything else in these broadcasts.
Please don't ever suggest Lin-Manuel as a Tonys host. My buttocks immediately clenched when he came onstage because I thought he was going to do one of his interminable "clever" raps when he presented. It was such a relief that he played it straight, but I can't imagine he would if allowed to host.
They had every opportunity to "get revenge" by not voting for Bette Midler and yet they avoided that. Sadly, Tony voters are just as guilty of marking off ballots because they've heard of someone as the people are who stay at home and watch the broadcast. I love Kevin Kline and Bette Midler both, but they really…
Since you keep ignoring what I actually wrote in order to reiterate points that I conceded early on I have nothing more to add.
When I find the straw man you're arguing with I'll direct him to the thread so he can respond.
Except you are divorcing that statement from the context of me talking about the layer of smugness and phoniness that comes from them creating a false narrative of egalitarianism through the entire broadcast. I NEVER said the guy shouldn't get work, praise, or honors, and I never would — what I argued is that when you…
And nowhere did I say it did. In fact I took great pains to say it didn't. So feel free to continue arguing against imaginary points.
When you can find anywhere that I said anyone should be "disadvantaged" I'll respond to your nonsensical comment.
And thank goodness it did. Yes, it suffers from Nile Rodgers gloss and Bowie thinking that rap ever will meld well with his sound, but musically many of the compositions are gorgeous and the simple fact that he felt comfortable enough to start writing instrumentals again is a sign that he was finally finding his way…
I do understand what you're saying, but I think Bowie has to be considered for his albums, not his singles, if only because he was one of the last of a breed who actually took care to create coherent albums. "Loving the Alien" is an unimpeachable classic, but "Blue Jean" does not rise anywhere near its level.…
This has been an aspect of the business from the beginning and will continue to be so, but I do think it's disingenuous when the various fawning statements made about someone don't at least provide some context and full disclosure. I can't knock his talent, but I also can't ignore the fact that there are many, many…
Maybe in countries where there is arts funding, but in America it's kind of poor form to mock people for not being "pure" when you likely wouldn't do your job for free, either.
