Pre-orders and opening sales represents the die hard fan base which is a very small portion of the overall annual sales.

Extra care needs to be taken because the Daily Fail is not known for posting accurate news stories. I think they're better described as "news entertainment".

Rest in peace Steve. You've been one of the greatest innovators of the modern era and will truly be missed.

Because a person would have no idea how to handle the legal aspects of the case. I'd think that pro se is very risky.

Thanks for the clarification. I learned something today. Much appreciated! :)

If you win you are entitled damages like your lawyer fees. The problem is that defense lawyers don't work on contingency generally, so you'd have to pay them up front which can be very expensive (that's what the small shops can't afford) then hope for reimbursement later.

They do. At my U all engineers had to take a course in engineering ethics.

Ya, given Apples track record with features like video recording, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided that the iPhone 4 "wasn't powerful enough".

Well if it said "The new iPhone" and showed a picture of an iPhone 5 instead, they'd be in a world of trouble.

I'm in Redondo Beach. There's the Torrance market, but they have weird hours. My GF works in downtown and sneaks off to one (I'm assuming the Santa Monica one?) but hasn't had any luck finding any for me so far.

Thanks for the info. Could make a fun trip sometime. Do you know of any retailers that sell cider in the LA area? My big chain grocery has it, but only for a month or so. Problem with Oak Glen is that it's $50 in gas @ 20 mpg. lol

Interesting. I wonder if this means that ISPs will have to stop blocking server apps running on port 80? I'm sick of using http on non-standard port numbers.

That's one think I miss now that I've moved to Los Angeles. Cider is extremely hard to find and, when available, is only around for a really short time. My GF had no idea what she was missing because she didn't know the different between cider and apple juice. Winter approaches... hopefully the cider will be here soon.

I agree. Apotheker and Whitman both had no place running HP. The board needs to be replaced with one that understands that HP is also a hardware company.

This is not a turn for the better. First-to-file favors those who can afford to pump out patents. This actually helps the interest of big corporations while hurting those of the small guys - i.e. independent inventors and individuals who come up with good ideas but may not have the financial means or know-how to go

Site is borked, can't get anything to show up other than the home page.

$30 price drop plus battery is cool, but it would have been nice if they upgraded to 802.11n. For those of us who already have a dash it looks like the battery is the only difference which, to me at least, is no significant reason to upgrade.

You don't have to go back 30 years. I've seen prices go up from 100k to 500k in a span of 6 or so years. With the current downturn, values are still around 400k. Prop 13 protects from spikes like this as well.

LA county has been doing re-assessments. However they are temporary and not subject to the normal proposition 13 rules - in that the lower rate is not limited to a +2% / year restriction. Even so, property values are still high in many places so getting re-assessed didn't change much in my case.

I agree, however other states deduct the trade-in from the sale price none-the-less. While, CA is not charging *more* in this case, they are not charging less, like other places.
