I can certainly understand the traction portion of that. However, in central California, we don't have that issue. The last time it snowed was my freshman year in 1999. It was 2 inches and they closed the school lol.

Thanks Henry, I've been reading everything Wes has posted all week. This will be our first overnighter, on a relatively mild trail, but this will be great practice at map reading and testing out the Rino (and spare Galaxy S3).

Thanks! I already purchased Backcountry Navigator to use on a spare Galaxy phone. I'm going to start playing around creating some personal maps to get practice! Hopefully between this and my Garmin Rino I should be good for our first overnight hike!
