Honestly, I see more of the “outrage climate” coming from Gamergate whenever a critic is, well, critical of them or a game they seem to particularly favor.

I think it was mentioned by someone at VICE that specific people were asked to be a part of the judging for this, so while the gender dispairity might not be obvious to the people who were doing the judging, it may not be the same for those who asked on behalf of the award show.
