Jalopnik’s caption for this article on Facebook was “Things are not looking too great for Tesla’s longevity”.
The anti-Tesla snark on this site has gotten ridiculous.

Tesla is losing EV market share because the EV market is growing faster than Tesla. However, Tesla is gaining overall vehicles sales shares which is a much more interesting metric since Tesla has said they are competing against all vehicles, not just EVs.
I see a SHIT TON of Teslas here. Granted I live in California which is weird compared to everyone else. But I don’t even bother to look as there are usually 2-3 at every single stop light now.

This is the correct take.
There’s some false logic in market share if you don’t also look at the profit margins. You can have 90% market share, not make a profit, and go bankrupt.
1st Gear: So Tesla’s market share sank, but how many EVs did they sell compared to everyone else? Market share isn’t the entire picture. Ie., iOS is about 50% of the Mobile OS market share in the US, the rest held by Android. But more importantly, Apple is the only manufacturer of the iPhone, whereas there are…
The Mach-E was overpriced for what you got, and with Tesla dropping prices, it’s not surprising. The F-150 Lightning is now even more overpriced than ever, but try finding another EV pickup that’s actually attainable. Once it has competition, it’ll go the same way as the Mach-E. Ford needs to find cost savings in…
“It kind of creates a loophole for automakers to target more affluent customers who are probably more likely to be able to afford and actually get approved to buy an EV,” she said.
It was definitely the second, and likely the first as well.

Unfortunately, the problem is a lot more complex and it’s difficult to say if direct sales would save any money.
I own a model Y with FSD.
If you’re trying to buy a ‘classic’ Mini (50's/60's) then yeah - way expensive. But you can still get early 80's Minis at sub-$15K... Not many of them, but they exist.
50 Ways to Leave a Takeover
Are you really that uneducated to think all net profit goes to a couple of execs at every automotive company? Because even in Tesla’s extreme case, Musk only owns 13% of shares and takes $0 in salary.
This is how it should go. New cars don’t really need a dealership and their scammy salespeople. Just have a showroom where you can see/test drive the model you’re interested in and then order one and take at home delivery. New cars don’t need to be seen to be purchased if you already know what you’re buying.

My God! Won’t someone think of the dealers?! Imagine how many hastily-smoked cigarettes and shiny suits that could buy!
Good. Given all the shenanigans that dealerships pull, their bullshit mark ups on specialty vehicles, “disappearing” trade-ins, “I need to talk to my manager” nonsense,... fuck ‘em. I’ll happily buy from a manufacturer, directly.
