I know this is an add, but I bought one of these things and it is AWESOME. Ports are spaced adequately and there are a ton of them.  Plus additional USB ports!  The rotating tower makes it a breeze to find an open plug when you get a new toy.  Highly recommended by this random consumer!

I shut that off years ago.  Predictive text on Android takes care of 99% of the problems autocorrect tried to solve.

Yeah, your professor sounds like they were way out of touch with modern programming.  Especially with Java/C#, without an IDE everything would take 10x longer.
