I’d argue that Pujols got a better outcome because of race, not in spite of it. The fact that old racist used the worst possible slur seems to have been a significant factor in the relatively light sentence.

It’s called the reasonable person standard. Look it up.

Throwing popcorn = physical attack.

You’re not crazy, you’re just an asshole.

Well said. I’ll add that historically the problem isn’t actually “the system” but the *people* that operate the system. They could have thrown the book at this kid, and historically that’s been the problem with white police/prosecutors and black defendants. But here the discretion inherent to those in charge was used

Go to jail for what? We’re well past the statute of limitations for perjury. So at a minimum you’d have to prove she lied to her husband about what Till did/said, and to my knowledge there’s no evidence of that.

Defund literally means defund you twit. If it really means reform then start calling it “reform the police.”

I’m a non-MAGA white guy, and I didn’t know who he was before the attack.

The appeal will likely center on the jury misconstruing the definition of “accomplice.” Which is debatable, but if I recall correctly Bryan undermined his own case as he replied “not exactly” when an officer on the scene asked if he was just an observer.

Do you feel the same way about Roddie Bryan? If not, I’d love hear your justification for this instance of felony murder being a “total miscarriage of justice.”

You might be the most ignorant commenter on The Root, and that is really saying something!

Holy fucking shit, he was convicted under the same principle (murder felony) as Roddie Bryan in the Arbery case, which you just celebrated in another article. What’s your answer, only allow murder felony charges when a white guy is with other white guys who shoot a black guy, but not when a black guy is with other

Gee, it’s almost like the McMichaels committed a crime and Rittenhouse didn’t. Strange...

I see The Root loves the justice system when it delivers the results it wants, but it is fundamentally broken when it doesn’t. Interesting.

Interesting. Where did you get your law degree? Twitter or Instagram?

So people shouldn’t be admitted because they’ve been charged with a crime, even if they were acquitted? I see this working out great for ASU when it comes to ensuring a diverse campus. Kids today...

Could be, there are a lot of shit comments in the grays. But in this one specific comment he has a point. And my only point is that they aren’t real allies, they were just looking for an excuse to riot.

I agree with all of that.

They’re not real allies, they’re anarchists who used BLM as an excuse to go out and try to burn shit down.

Is it too much to ask that The Root get an actual lawyer to cover these things? Most judges don’t let the prosecution use the word “victim” as the prevailing view is this is prejudicial for the jury. It is not uncommon to stop a proceeding when a witness becomes overly emotional and starts crying, and the judge
