Helping to get him out of office made me so happy I almost threw up and orgazimed simultaneously.

I get infuriated that people will accept a child professing a religion, but not a "young person" having political opinions.
I had no idea about this. Thanks for the info!
yup
Oh, absolutely! I wasn't clear enough about why I found that passage gross even though things were so difficult for freed slaves. Thank you for elaborating.
I like that quote.
I'm glad you and most of your family are being so supportive. It's also really encouraging that Jess admits she has a problem and that even if she isn't eager about getting help, she knows she needs it.
I suggest knitting supplies. Since she doesn't like new things, knitting is a low key, low commitment kind of hobby; you decide how much you want to do and how often. I'm also manic depressive and agoraphobic, and knitting gives me something to do when depressed OR when manic, I learned how to do it through YouTube…
Re: black influence on how the book differed from the movie- There was supposed to be a scene in which Prissy eats a water melon, but Butterfly McQueen refused. She also wouldn't let Vivian Leigh actually slap her, but the slap is still in the movie.
The book is far, far more racist than the movie. There's a scene in the streets with a newly-freed slave begging anyone to send him back "home" because "I's had enough a dis freedom."
Good for you for doing something. So many people have a "none of my business" attitude about things, even or especially violence.
I can't and won't try to speak for all rape survivors, but I wouldn't have felt in any way comforted or inspired by this scene. I would have been triggered as fuck. I hope they had some sort of "graphic sexual violence" warning before the start of the episode.
