You’re right, but they won the Senate and the House. They have total control at this point and the legislation they want to push forward, or repeal, is absolutely fucking terrifying.

Yeah, but this shitty conservative president has both houses of Congress and the SCOTUS. They can and will do things no decent person would dream of.
Speaking from experience as an Australian who had to deal with people who voted for Tony Abbott (admittedly not as bad as Trump, but still vile) it gets easier over time. Don’t try to talk to them about it now. You’re too emotional and they’re still too full of their victory. Avoid them. If you leave it a couple of…
Except to view them as your enemy isn’t all that helpful. As you note, they aren’t out on the streets, burning crosses & whatnot.
I don’t think anything changed except the candidates. There was a lack of enthusiasm on the left this year where there was a lack of enthusiasm on the right last time. Maybe lost in Obama’s historic wins was the fact that he is far better at campaigning than Clinton so his wins don’t indicate any progress with white…
For myself, I feel like part of being a good citizen is addressing racism as I see it, even if that makes for awkward or hostile social situations. Is it productive to have these charged issues on the table in all our relationships at all times? Well, all I know is that politely ignoring them certainly doesn’t help.
I’m not sure that post was trying to apportion blame, but regardless of that, are you actually disputing the facts displayed there?
There were ways to mitigate this not at all unpredictable reality.
I started doing what the men in the office do: leave the copier jammed up for someone else to fix.
I’ll get back to work. But, I’m not going to do the extra any more. You know, the way women get roped into coordinating office parties, or bringing in snacks, or developing ideas and having them credited to men, or doing someone else’s job for them in addition to my own because that’s expected of women. I’ll do my…
“How about you so-called progressive white Jezzies stop coddling your Trump supporting relatives and loved ones and express your disgust?”
Hopefully today will be my first full day of work. Yesterday I was sent home, “not as a reprimand, but to calm down and get some perspective.”
A gracious “thank you” to you, Joanna Rothkopf, and everyone else who is working to do something positive in the wake of defeat. I’m already sick and tired of the people who are more interested in blaming everyone except themselves for the outcome of the election, than in regrouping and fighting for the rights of…
Thanks so much for this article! I work for The Advocates for Human Rights (http://www.theadvocatesforhumanrights.org/) and we work with many of these great organizations. I would like to ask that you consider adding us to the list. With the help of hundreds of pro bono volunteers, we serve 1000+ low-income clients as…
In terms of environmental organizations, we also need to worry about access to and privatization of public lands. The Republican Party Playform calls for turning National Parks and Forests to the states, which will jeopardize their preservation for future generations. One organization working against this is…
Donald Trump has been a vocal advocate of sexual assault, Islamophobia, xenophobia, and violent racism. Early…
Yup, I see him.
Following the lead of our esteemed colleagues at Deadspin, we felt it was important for the staff of Jezebel to go…
I voted today with my 2 year old daughter. The voting place is at a school around the corner from our house. So, we walked there and she chatted away, as little girls do. I realize that to her it was just a nice, little walk with Mama. But for me, it was a walk that a lot of women didn’t get to ever make in our…
The lines were already pretty long at 6:40 this morning in my Cleveland suburb.
