It’s not abysmal. It’s just not quite as good as the larger phones. Also we are all surrounded these days with a dozen convenient options at any time to add some juice to the battery. Portable power packs of all sizes, the lighting cables in the car, a wireless charger at the desk, etc. 

I think one thing not helping the mini is reviewers saying the battery life is abysmal. Sure it won’t be as good as the bigger phones but I wouldn’t say its such a drastic difference that it warrants “abysmal”. Especially if you’re coming from an older phone, like most probably are.

You can go to a Target or Best Buy and hold all three sizes. Just use hand sanitizer afterwards.
