To add my own anecdote, diet soda used to be pretty much all I drank, but I started to realize that it just made me hungry. Like, my brain tastes the sweetness, expects calories and gets pissed when it doesn’t get any. It could be that drinking diet soda leads to overeating, which leads to cardiovascular issues…

The Arlington VA, deal is for up to 37,000ish employees. I expect Amazon will scale up faster there and, if they even hire 50k people, either spread the rest around or just put them all in Arlington/Alexandria—there’s plenty of space.

For what it’s worth, Virginia still ‘celebrates’ Lee–Jackson Day, they just separated it from MLK Jr. Day. Virginia commonwealth offices are closed on the Friday before MLK Jr. Day in honor of Lee and Jackson.

Yeah, it’s overblown. Alone, it’s pretty low-impact, but with the pictures/video and now the multi-day media shitshow about it... Unpublicized, it would have been ignored, but now the hat signees will get chewed out for it, though I doubt there’ll be any official repercussions. 

It’s worth reminding people that the continued U.S. (/NATO) presence in Afghanistan has very little to do with the Taliban, terrorists, or nation-buidling and very much to do with maintaining troops and, more importantly,  air bases in close proximity to Iran, Pakistan and Western China.
