They're both overpriced devices. Get a cheap netbook if you want to be cost effective, or build your own PC if you want something more powerful.

Of course Linux can. I believe Linux malware is more about getting botnets in high-bandwidth systems like universities though, whereas Windows malware is often "Hey, you have a virus, pay us to remove it!".
