Tesla wasn’t always against it. I seem to remember this from 5 or 6 years ago. I can’t find an article about the controversy. If you make it easy for people to do the wrong thing, more people will do the wrong thing. If you could magically achieve 100% accountability, it would still cost you a great deal more money, time, and dead people than it would just to not put a gun in everyone’s hands in the first place.

The distracted or drunk driver as per your second example can take out other people. This is why these things are banned. As are many things that are inherently dangerous while operating a multi ton missile at high speed.

Tesla is run by a CEO who doesn’t like cars, and would rather play video games than drive. They sell their cars to people who feel the same way. 

I’m glad the investigation will continue anyways. I’m sick and tired of Tesla getting to play fast and loose with with the same regulations that everyone else has to follow.

Well, he’s not... Gwynne Shotwell is designing the rockets, Musk makes sure she has all the money she needs to do it. That’s not a knock on Musk by the way, being able to knock down obstacles to Getting Shit Done is his biggest skill and that’s incredibly valuable. I just like to see credit where credit is due.
