I think so. The big thing is having video of someone talking about it. Tom Scocca at Gawker did a good job of bringing it back up, but his article didn't end up being what spurred everyone into noticing. People watch and share videos way more than articles.

Statistically, it's going to happen. Really, it's 4-8%. Slate did an article looking up different studies and that was the closest range. It's impossible to know how many not reported are false, but it's bound to be greater than zero.

In real life, the opposite happened. Jackie was believed without her facts being checked. It came back to bite Rolling Stone in the ass.

Jeff' who wrote, "Why is it always necessary to tip toe around the minority community,

The problem is that she described an initiation ritual at a specific frat, so getting it wrong does matter, as does the fact that there wouldn't have been pledges at the time she suggested.

It still makes no sense to use it. They made an agreement with her not to check her stories out to help her stay anonymous. So why turn around and ask to use her real first name?

And yet many people want to end anonymous commenting systems.

Yes, your post says that they aren't portraying rape correctly, not that it can't be portrayed.

His followup on Netflix, "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" is even better. (I realize you may have meant the movie rather than his original special, but it's worth watching either way).

Yeah, it's something like 40% of the Hot 100. Another 30% is R&B, which couldn't be more hip hop influenced at this point. Rock has fallen by more than half in the past 10 years.

That's dumb since we now know it's unlikely she's telling the truth. You neglected another group that doubted her story publicly, which is the people helping her who counsel sexual assault victims.

No way. Anna's response was perfect. If you're going to trust a source and call people who question them idiots, then you have to admit if you're wrong. She was wrong to believe Rolling Stone and was classy in admitting it up front.

No, she deserves the blame if she was lying. Obviously, it sounds like she was and is under trauma of some sort and also deserves empathy. But it doesn't resolve her of responsibility if she lied.

It's illegal to make, distribute, or view illegally made films, whether pornography, bootlegs, or whatever else. We prosecute child pornography harder than things like bootlegs because it's a more serious crime. So it does have the morally corrupting element, but it's based on the production being illegal.

True, this is very different than people thinking they can discern secrets about Cosby by watching The Cosby Show.
