Yeah, I’m not trying to excuse Pewdiepie for what he said on stream.
Yeah, I’m not trying to excuse Pewdiepie for what he said on stream.
Last time I checked, racism was doing just fine even without Pewdiepie. The publicness of his outburst isn’t what makes it wrong.
No, what I’m saying is irrelevant is this idea that it’s bad because he said it publicly. He is rightly being condemned for having said it at all. The publicness should be the least of our concerns. What his having said this publicly does give us is an opportunity to see, out in the open, some shit that we all know…
I’m not sure the publicness is really relevant, unless you’re looking for an obvious explanation of why we’re talking about Pewdiepie and not soneone who did the same thing, or worse, in private.
... when I get pissed at someone in an online game, I sometimes say to myself “what a fucking fag.” And that doesn’t even make sense because I never say that word or any variation of it in any other context.
I’ve absolutely never seen it used inappropriately, so imagine my amazement at all the men here saying that women use it to shut down any explanations or opinions from men.
I think the problem is that the mansplaining allegation sometimes gets trotted out inappropriately. I’ve absolutely seen people use it when it’s clear they just wanted a quick way to claim victory in an argument, or something like that. And every time that happens, it makes the concept easier and easier to trivialize.
And as usual, no one is really popping up to prove your pre-emptive BS warranted. All the comments I see right now are supportive. But hey, at least you didn’t post the XKCD free speech comic. Progress!
I was under the impression that “mansplaining” is when a man attempts to explain something to a woman that is specific to a woman’s experience (thus, a man wouldn’t know, e.g., advice on how to be a working mother) or talks down to her because she is a woman despite being more qualified in a given area (applicable to…
That’s such bullshit. If Mercy isn’t doing something other than hiding until the ult pops up, that ult isn’t going to be popping up anywhere near as often as it will need to in order to make up for the fact that Mercy isn’t doing shit else. Mercy is extremely fun to play, and is not exactly straightforward to play…
Yeah, but she says she doesn’t like guys like that (read: guys not out for a relationship).
I think the problem with the first letter-writer is that most people think relationships, at the very beginning, are about feeling each other out and deciding how serious it’s going to get. So while she’s like “I’m just looking for fun, not commitment” up front, her partners are assuming that’s normal, but that it…
Women ‘friend-zone’ guys so they can get the constant validation with little cost. The hint is if the poor sap hangs around long enough his turn will come along ... though most likely it never will. Friend-zoning is most often a terminal sentence.
Because it’s easier for you to fuck someone than disappoint them.
Yeah, there’s a lot of shifting of definitions/categories when you actually try to pin something down in dialogue with a libertarian. They’ll frequently say things like, “That’s not really libertarianism!” or “I’m not that kind of libertarian!” It gets to the point where it’s like, you really need to come up with a…
Most of the “Libertarians” that argue that slavery would have died off by itself are really just crypto-confederates regurgitating the Lost Cause myth.
Right, the thing that was going to fix that was Europe, having already decided slavery was bad, starting to “sanction” our exports.
Racism isn’t a thing you can do that with without approving of some form of racism. It’s not an nuanced thing.
Granted, I haven’t watched South Park in a long, long time, but back when I did, their entire shtick was to stake out two really absurd sides in a timely cultural dispute, and then be like “Look, both these sides are moronic! The real answer lies within our quasi-libertarian outlook!” So yeah, I really do feel like…
I’m surprised the game doesn’t strike a “fuck both sides equally” compromise. That’s like the entire premise of South Park. Surprisingly woke for Parker and Stone.
