Cant speak to wood per se, but I work in the irradiation field and I can tell you wood/paper-based products, such as cardboard, do not last long exposed to gamma irradiation. Perhaps better with beta (and certainly alpha), but cellulose likely no match for gamma rays.

Air Disasters had an incredible episode whereby the window was blown out (in?), and the pilot flew out. The co-pilot held his legs in the cockpit while his torso was out of the plane at 300+ mph and freezing temps. All of them lived, including the outside pilot guy.
