Yes. Yes, it is. The speed limit on the main roads is 120kpm [drops to 60km on private roads and 40km near shops/schools].

There are LOTS of speed bumps all over the roads away from the main drag [Sheikh Zayed Road], but those areas are generally covered by the Nissans/Toyotas/Chevys/etc in the fleet, not the 'super cars' [which you'll see more in the tourist areas and main roads]. Moreover, most communities have their own security

It is something of a PR exercise, yes. But a big part of that is directed towards Emiratis, not tourists or expats. While government jobs are very well paid with lots of perks, attracting 'ordinary' Emiratis into routine police work isn't easy [they'd rather have a desk job] and a lot of the frontline traffic cop work

You'll *love* this then. Despite some misgivings, the driving age in Dubai has just been lowered.

Mostly, the standard Doobers cop cars look like this:

Awww ... bless their little foreign-sounding names. And the inability of most people to spell them. ;-)

I suspect 3AW and others of their ilk will lend an ear to anything that provides suitable grist for its particularly shrill mill. There are current affairs TV shows which act as similar vehicles, of course, but without footage, the story wouldn't be as eyeball-baiting. Naturally.

.. And isn't it marvellous that a conservative shock-jocky AM radio station was there to minister to this mother's angst.

Oh god ... this, this, this.

Yep: that's me. But I LOVE cricket and rugby All. The. Time.

Why shouldn't I ask here? People ask questions on Gawks all the time. Besides, I did google it and there didn't seem to be a lot of information about the 'why' of the thing.

Say what now?

Thanks for that. I can see why it would be considered a big thing for a lot of people as a consequence. :)

Australia.

Noooo ... but oh my word, they're a 'thing' in the UAE and I ... just ... can't stand it.

Can someone please explain why graduation ceremonies even exist for high school students?

The menu options are endless ....

That? That's a bloody great idea. I would definitely add money to the pot for free skinS to support this fantastic cause. :)

Yowsers! That's a good one! And not unheard of in many communities where single motherhood was verboten [I know it was certainly a 'thing' in Ireland; more than a few children of young women were raised by Grandma rather than the birth mother].

Yeah. Me too. I mean ... I don't really give a single fuck about this little menage, but when the story was vomited all over the meeja, the first thing I thought was that maybe ... just maybe ... there's a Blue Ivy connection.
