Desmo valves are to Ducati what the rear engined layout is to Porsche. As is the longitudinal v-twin for Moto Guzzi and the front engine, rear drive layout for BMW.

I don’t think Pruitt’s call was right nor do I think the 300/year limit is right. The whole point of a glider (my company used to make them) was to put a good condition engine/trans back into service after a sever accident or a rusted/worn out truck chassis became too unsafe.
Psh I know of a place that has a compression ratio of 3.4X10^11:1. Granted its RPM is 1/week.
