I worked at an LSP in one team, worked my way from junior to senior over 3 years and then, when the team got a new manager in he managed to convince people further up to let him expand the team and he took on juniors at the same pay as me and other higher grades on somewhat more.

Workers, plural. Almost no physical products produced these days are simple enough for one person to take them from conception to the end user. The controls are different, though. The clutch on the left, brake in the middle and accelerator on the right layout didn’t get standardised until the 30s or 40s. Saying that, there’s fewer driving controls on modern cars, I don’t know if they’d automated it by 1909 but early cars had manual ignition advance.
