In part it’s related to how many people you can sell the product to, a product that you only have to make once. I’ve just realised that the vacuum gauge has it’s scale backwards compared to the other gauges, presumably this is so that it’ll go ‘up’ (to the right like most gauges) when you stamp on the loud pedal.
+ You don’t have to remove the tyre to install them or change the battery
They’re also common on piston engine aircraft that are fitted with a constant speed prop (think of it as plane CVT) as the engine speed will stay pretty much constant leaving the intake manifold pressure as the only direct indication of how hard the engine is working.
