While I agree with the tips as a whole, I do feel a little...misled? by the $21,000 number, considering more than half of it came from the venue making a mistake and offering a very generous compensation— something that I doubt happens that often or at such a large magnitude.

I'm currently planning a wedding, and this article isn't very helpful... I agree with others that the band thing is crazy... better advice is to find a band that you like that plays smaller gigs and doesn't usually book weddings and is willing to do something for $1000. And find a place that doesn't usually book

Is this story like "how to save money at Kohl's"?

It does sound like the author is including the honeymoon (talks about hotel points/airfare miles). Even so, cutting $21k off a wedding/honeymoon is a lot of money. It also seems like the band was either seriously overcharging to begin with (dropped $5k just for asking) or there's something amiss with this whole story.

It doesn't really count as saving money if there was no reason to spend that much in the first place.

In Minnesota, it's technically the law to do the "zipper merge" — you have to use both lanes of traffic until the merge point on a highway.

That's a pretty standard law actually. Minnesota has it, I think Wisconsin too.

That's like basic Driver's Ed. They teach that everywhere, as far as I know.

False. Not all trans people get surgery on their genitals, nor do they have to in order to transition. You can use whatever gender pronouns you feel identify you. If she feels most comfortable being referred to as "she", then it's her choice to identify that way, regardless of what's between her legs. This kind of

kindly refer to the genderbread person. Gender is different than biological sex. Manning is a woman.

A reminder to all commenters:

As stated by others, you are incorrect. Her biological sex is male, her gender identity is female. She isn't "confused"; her physical body and her gender identity do not match. She has asked to be referred to using female pronouns, and that should be respected. She doesn't have to surgically transition until and

most places are actually getting rid of the legal obligation to surgically transition in order to get documentation changed. outside of the fucked up legal system, i'm not sure why anyone's genitals would necessarily impact their gender identity.

it's great that your friends felt comfortable transitioning, but you

Her gender is female. Her sex is male. Gender and sex are not interchangeable words. They mean two different things.

Manning was referring to herself as female and transgendered and as "Breanna Manning" in chat rooms before and during the time the leaks occurred. This was part of the recent case against her.

I really don't get the "I DON'T WANT MY TAX DOLLARS PAYING FOR THIS" or the "WOW, WHAT CONVENIENT TIMING!" people.

I'm happy for Manning that she's in a place where she feels comfortable being open about who she is, I wish her the best in her transition.
