You win all the stars!

Couldn’t agree more. Well for almost everything:) I can’t stand the story in Metal Gear. Never could and never will. It’s dreadful adolescent fan fiction of some of the worst 80’s films BUT, but the gameplay is amazingly fun. It’s extraordinarily ambitious in it’s individual parts and yet somehow fits together

Yeah, I did an awful lot of shouting at an empty room and asking questions of my furniture too. Depressing.

A ‘serious’ discussion should absolutely include those contextual details. In those situations then the authors bias and intent should be taken into account - those intellectual discussions keep critics and art theorists/historians in publication and well paid work so those details are there for those people who want

He painted dogs?! Wow. That I did NOT know!

I still believe you can find value in art that may have had entirely different intentions. I read 300 as a myth, a fairy tale. I find it aesthetically pleasing and that style confirms in my mind that it has very little to do with history, reality or my personal politics. I think you can absolutely look at art aside

Is that what it’s called? ‘Death of the Author’? That makes sense I guess. Thanks for filling in that gap for me!
As for the essays that are sometimes included in the back of print - I dislike them for a few reasons.
If the authors goal with a story is to prompt the reader to consider a different opinion or

I wouldn’t find it boring and most people with more than a passing interest in video games probably wouldn’t either. If there was a book telling the whole story then I’d read that but there isn’t. Reality told well is always interesting. Indie game the movie was pretty successful and there’s always an audience

I loved the ending to the film but then I love distopian and downbeat endings. That’s why I loved the Thing and At the Mouth of Madness, that kind of story. For some reason it just makes an outlandish story that little bit more believable. I’ll happily watch this if they put a big budget behind it and gives us some

I know it makes me a dreadful person but that last image just makes me smile! Some lovely looking people having fun:)

This looks really interesting - for me though it’s that style that sells it first! I love that energetic ‘cartoonist’ quality but then Annie Di Donna could draw a blank wall and I’d love it. She’s a wizard. Great heads up on this one!
As for the inevitable Frank Miller ranting that will follow, there is a simple

There was an interview with James Wood, the writer behind the film.

Try not to make too much of a ‘joke’ story out of this - It’s far too easy for people to make light of animal cruelty and killing. You might ‘dislike’ an animal but I hope that anyone that says that still wouldn’t go and run them down with a car. If it’s socially acceptable to joke about that kind of behaviour then it

I don’t know about you but I also find that the narcissism needed for someone to want to take that many selfies and share them with the world, deeply troubling and horribly unattractive. That kind of character flaw shows through, even with the most ‘conventionally’ attractive person. Sure we all need some help feeling

Really, she was? Wow, did not know that! That really would make sense then I guess. Thank you for filling in a massive gap that makes so many other bits fall into place - of course she’d write about a school and pupils etc. It’s a part of life she’d known from both sides of the pupil/teacher fence:)

Some seriously good choices on here...so you know, thanks for making it impossible to sleep now:) My choice is probably based more on the age I was when I first saw the film, in fact it’s probably not even considered scary these days. Sadly it probably damaged me so much I doubt I could make it through the entire

GREAT illustrated scene! Man I’d love to see the main scenes from Aliens done in that style - ooh ooh I bet they’d make the Queen look fan-bloody-tastic!

I always thought it was from the French for death? That seemed like the most likely origin of the word and as most of her character names have similar real world origins I thought it was a safe bet. In fact most of the people I knew reading the books were as surprised as I was that it was never pronounced ‘correctly’

Yeah, it does seem that way doesn’t it! I don’t think we need anymore encouragement or new ways to be horrid to each other - we seem pretty good at that with the tools we already have:) I also worry about the Selfie thing. (this really does make me sound old and crusty - I’m only 30. ‘Only’...urgh) Yeah, the selfie

(Having looked again today at the comments section for this I am really sorry for adding to the pile of Gawker bullshit that came your way! I forget this is an odd and aggressive place! I honestly, hand on heart, really don’t care what people do with tablets/apple product/their own stuff and I certainly wouldn’t judge
