The term is especially silly when applied to Bowie, whose discography is pretty well-known even to casual listeners. The songs I would have called "deep cuts," like Conversation Piece or Velvet Goldmine, became commonplace when Ryko included them as bonus tracks on CDs during the 90's, which I always thought was a

Come for the Natural History Museum, stay for the hookups… or vise versa.

The day I start talking with a Leicester accent kindly put a bullet in me.

Guess he's never been to Red's down the Wharf.

Ducks up drakes down.

On his way out I heard him muttering something about "fetching home a Harris."

The album Cinema Transcendental by Caetano Veloso convinced me that I had to learn Portuguese.

You can catch some massive burbot and char through the ice in Alaska.

I remember his brief standup-style segments being pretty funny to me as a kid. If there had been more of that I would have watched it more often.

They should just get Ray Davies to write one.

Evil deeds can't serve Aslan and good deeds can't serve Tash is the main one I remember. Like any good heresy, there are layers of interpretation.

Drinking for 48 hours is tough even under normal circumstances.

She's more Samba-canção with a dash of desperation.

Yeah seriously, no one is sick of João Gilberto in this decade or any other. They'll still be studying Chega de Saudade when we terraform Titan.

Excellent. My daughter got her middle name from Klaus Nomi.

Also Zappa's the Meek Shall Inherit Nothing. Unfortunately there seemed to be something about that space that swallowed up portions of the sound. I lot of performances I remember from the 80's sounded kind of flat.

My introduction to him was the 80's live compilation film Urgh! A Music War. I asked everyone I knew about him and no one had any idea. Found out a few years later he had been dead already. I did finally manage to find two records of him in DC. I highly recommend the Urgh! album to anyone who doesn't know it.
