Totally fair enough, GalvaTron Guy. We are all living some version of that now. I follow two (and only two) Twitter accounts, I’ve never met either of the tweeters in person, and I don’t find the tweets especially illuminating. But I keep checking back in because ... because.

Wait until you hear how short Mark Ruffalo is compared to the Hulk!

She really is. I figured Allison Brie was a lock after all the rumors surrounding her, but I think they made the right choice. My personal feelings about superhero movies and TV shows aside, Maslany absolutely deserves a plum role like this, and I was dismayed at all the fairly thankless supporting roles she got after

I bet it would be a thrill for Zack Snyder to visit a real movie set and see what a director does all day.

Absentee ballots are harder to get in Texas. I would just make sure to show up and vote during early voting and wear a mask.

For Florida, I recommend early voting. Starts on October 24 (possible even 5 days earlier than that in some areas). Even the podunk counties have at least one early voting location.  Vote on your day off (if you have one).

I actually had tickets to see the whole Ring Cycle performed in April. Alas it was a casualty of COVID.

I’m not quite sure you can really claim Herbert was Islamophobic. For starters, he certainly knew far more about various Islamic people than most Americans did in the 1960s, and while people like Harkonnen may be caricatures of decadent Turkish aristocrats, the Fremen are very positively depicted, and they are

I cannot support people buidling identities around books.

Wagner creates some incredible music in the Ring cycle, but one wishes he would have consulted Verdi on the importance of dramatic pacing.

Iain Banks published his ‘standard’ fiction under that name but his science-fiction stuff under the fiendishly clever pseudonym “Iain M. Banks”.

Yeah, it’s just that most people wouldn’t even know or care what sort of opinions their favorite author for 20+ years ago might have. My shit when I was a kid was, like, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I have no idea what the creator(s) of that have gotten up to because I don’t continue to obsess over children’s

Jeez louise, the millions of people who built an entire personality around liking a series of chidlren’s books must be having a rough one.

“Wagner’s music is better than it sounds.” -- Mark Twain.

It’s a bit confusing but an earlier draft had a scene of a big Imperial ceremony and THAT was what was influenced by Riefenstahl.

I love his music (well, parts of it... long stretches of Die Walkure really drag), but he was a pretty crappy human being even by the standards of his era. Even Ludwig II, who probably had a gay crush on Wagner, tired of his antics and intrigues after awhile.

To paraphrase Charlie Brooker, this looks about as interesting as watching cardboard exist.

Someone else mentioned this to me but:

Counter argument is it stripped out the totally life grinding depressing parts, removed 85% of the cringe , and most importantly took away 100% of the walking anal polyp that is Ricky Gervais.
