This isn’t about being a good driver—it’s about being able to pay your traffic fines. Even good drivers get tickets, son, and not every city has the benefit of an extensive transit system that people can use to get to work and take their kids to daycare.

But if you can write a check that clears, suddenly you’re a good driver and no longer a menace on the roads?

Did not know that, I thought he was a good catholic boy.

i was curious that the protest group didn’t include women in their list of groups they were standing up for - hasn’t Pence got some pretty sexist policies on abortion etc?

Pence is NOT a Catholic. Pence is an evangelical. They are very different things. I would think most Catholics would be opposed to the most of the politics of the evangelical extremists like Pence.

Yeah, I am not hear for this “But President Pence” bullshit. Pence is an evil that can be dealt with through normal political channels. Donald fucking Trump is a literal threat to democracy. There is no comparison, and I’m tired of eternal pesimissim.

imagine being so offended by women’s bodily autonomy and teaching young girls they are strong and capable that you would deny yourself thinmints for the rest of your life

The problem there isn’t with where liberals are moving. It’s that the GOP has gerrymandered the congressional districts across the country to favor the right.

The first two HP movies were almost exactly like the books. IIRC, the only actual scene that was left out of either was the chapter from Chamber of Secrets where the golden trio attend Nearly Headless Nick’s Deathday Party on Halloween. Why yes, I am a giant fucking nerd, thanks for asking. :)

Every once and a while I will have a very Toasty thought (“Let’s conduct a feminist comparative analysis of the roles of sexuality and religion in An Experiment in Love and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit...”) and get so depressed when there is no place to go! (I need to go to graduate school. Or a shrink.)

“I cannot imagine how terrified I’d be, seeing these images of the women’s marches, if I sat in direct opposition to women’s rights. These are huge numbers of people.”

Jenna: “Once Trump got elected, I was like, I’m going to be here—and comments I got from other people in my life that voted for him, like ‘I don’t understand why you’re even going, it’s not like you can change the presidency.’ And I was like, okay, thank you, because now I know for sure that I’m going.”

My little Canadian marcher. We had no pink pussy hats, but I think Gryffindor is a fair substitute. She did not understand the pussy theme, but she approved and wore clothes all covered with cats all day. She will be extra excited when she sees the penguins marched as well.

Can you imagine

That’s why I’ll bring up both Romania and China as the extreme examples of what a government can do if they get into the pregnancy-deciding business, and it ends up badly with either extreme. A government that thinks it should determine whether someone should be pregnant or not against their will is an authoritarian

Yeah, no, sorry. You don’t get to boohoo about the mean libs kicking you out of the club, when you’re actively promoting ideas that hurt women. If you, personally, as a woman, do not agree with abortion, that is one thing. If you are actively fighting to prevent women from being able to choose to have an abortion,

Many of you are missing the larger picture:

SAME. I’m about done being pissed and activated 24/7 for seemingly no good reason. Logic and science means nothing to the Idiocracy crowd, which is a metric fuckton larger than we thought possible.

I’m sure many of you already know this, but my comment has some sources that you can pass along if you need. I was always pro choice, but my wife made me aware of this particular argument, and it opened my eyes a lot. I want to give credit to her.

Liberal people in general seem to really underestimate the number of women voters motivated solely by religious reasons, abortion being at the top of the list. Every woman I know that voted GOP or Johnson in the election a) is born-again, and b), only voted that way because they are self described “pro-life”.
