I think a new Metroid could be like this: a third person perspective; huge, interconnected worlds ala Dark Souls, filled with secrets and lore to explore; fast paced action that is fun, intuitive, but deep; and a good story that fleshes out the world.

Maybe get the Jeff Smith’s Bone set with the three first books. The Bone series is funny, thrilling, dramatic, and epic. You should really get those, at least for yourself.
