Who got their independence? White men? Should everyone consider that their independence day?

Not just that, but the holiday, despite what a bunch of chodes have turned it into, is commemorating the anniversary of that declaration of independence and *not* some imagined subsequent American exceptionalism.

Doesn’t every country pretty much exist because they stole/conquered other people’s land? I’m not diminishing any atrocities that this country committed to indigenous people, but we aren’t unique in our history.

“What has America done for the benefit of mankind? Let our answer be this–America, with the same voice which spoke herself into existence as a nation, proclaimed to mankind the inextinguishable rights of human nature, and the only lawful foundations of government. Without question. It should be a reminder, not just a historical market.

I just call it the Fourth of July, but if I called it Independence Day, I would consider that aspirational rather than already realized - just like so many of the ideals our nation was founded on. It can be a day to look forward as well as a day to eat hot dogs and watch fireworks.

I’m seeing double here...five ApathyMongers!

wait, is the character in the blooper reel supposed to be Stinky Pete, or is he supposed to be the “actor” playing Stinky Pete?

“ at no point in the scene is it implied that this is proper behavior.”

But it is, unquestionably, played for laughs.

So what are you saying? That this is supposed to be the “actor” playing Pete, not the character from the movie?

Technically, this is supposed to be the “ac...

I think it works (if that’s the word) to imply that the actor playing Pete (not Kelsey Grammer, but the fictional actor obviously) is a creep and a dirty old man. I mean - at no point in the scene is it implied that this is proper behavior.
