That would have been fine and good if they weren't so intertwined with the economy. Letting Chrysler and GM both fail at the same time period in the shit that was going down back in 2008 would have been bad ju-ju for everyone. I don't think economy would have been able to take that shock and things would have been

The bailout wasn't about moral ethics. It was strictly about money and jobs. Had those companies failed as you had wanted then the domino effect would have resulted in the immediate loss of MILLIONS of jobs, and with that loss would have come billions worth of liabilities in the form of unemployment. That's pretty

If anyone, Ford. Ford already knew the economy was going downhill, so they prepared for it, unlike the other 2. If the other 2 would have gone under, Ford would have been the last remaining and therefore would have higher sales since they were the only US car brand remaining and people who were loyal to buying new

Why would anyone want to invest and buy before it failed (aka before "bailout")?

If you're smart, you let it fail. You let all the union contracts that choked it, all the crap that is hard to remove, die.
Then you buy the assets, for a fraction of the cost, and THEN rebuild it all.

The government should have let it die,

Here's the problem with that. When Chrysler and GM went bankrupt the credit markets were completely frozen solid. There was no chance for either company to restructure through a normal bankruptcy procedure. both companies would have been liquidated and that would have sent devastating shockwaves through the automotive

Or, in the case of what happened in 2008-2009, no one was available to buy out the weak, so the weak would have been liquidated and the liquidation would have had a cascading effect across the economy. If you think it is still bad in 2013, imagine what things would be like now five years after two of the country's

I like the Genesis of that comment.

Pontiac was a corpse before the Government got a look at the books. GM gave Pontiac crap. A vast majority of their cars were re-badged crap.

I posted it in Oppo yesterday Raph. Geez.

Sorry, I have no idea why I posted this.

Anything Soviet.

Laguardia is pretty awful. Always busy, no parking, old, short runways, delays delays delays. They remodeled the delta terminal but it is still a dump.

Yet another argument for the direct-sales model Tesla is lobbying for.

Shut up. Both of you. Do you want me to pull this car over?

Ahhh-vroommmm

Ave Deus Taurus!

Having owned a bunch of Mazdas that weren't Miata's, if I had to go back and live with just one, it'd be my 1st generation Speed3. Room for people, room for gear, torque to spare.

This happens all the time. A post goes up that says "in the UK this car costs £___" or "in Germany this car costs €___," and then "which is the same as $___ USD." Then the comments flow in about it being overpriced and listing all the better cars one could buy with that sum of money.
