Gold isn't necessarily as good a heat reflector as other materials, but the fact that it doesn't oxidize makes it work much better over the long term.

Gold is also a good thermal conductor. I work with thermal control hardware for satellites, and when there's an interface between two components that heat has to pass through, a gold plating is sometimes applied to boost the heat transfer.

It has something to do with insulation, I believe. I can't give you the specific reason for it, but there is a purpose.
