Also, how fucking weird is it to see stories about the demise of Splinter and Deadspin on CNN?

I’m pretty sure the whole shebang will be shut down within a year. I’ve been reading Gawker since it’s inception and migrated to Splinter. And now it’s over. Jezebel is now completely fangless and craptastic (can’t wait for Herb to start forcing them to write makeup tip posts!)

Every news site that picks up a Splinter contributor is better for it. I loved you, Splinter, and the Internet is a worse place without you.

I poured my heart and soul into driving reader engagement on Splinter. I failed. It is a guilt I will carry for the rest of my life.

To all of you, so much thanks and so much respect for all you did.  What was done was an injustice.   Let us hope it is remembered for what it gave to all of us while it was here. 

If you all started your own site I’d be there every day and a LOT of other people would too, I’m sure. You already have your fan base. It would probably be difficult at first but I’m sure it would be worth while in so many ways, the least of which being profit.
