When you learn to spell, we will take what you are saying seriously. People have been speeding up when they reach the Michigan border for ages.

The speed increased by 2.mph, not 10 mph. People don’t drive 10 over the speed limit regardless of what it is. If the average is 75 mph in a 70 zone, more than 60 percent of the people are likely exceeding it. If the average is 77 in a 75 zone, the likely percentage exceeding the limit is closer to 20 percent. 30

Public service announcement. If you can’t handle driving a minimum of 70 mph you should stay off of the freeways.

Yes, appropriately posted speed limits help reduce non compliance and accidents over time. In Texas, where the speed limit is posted 85 mph, the 85th percentile is at 86.4. People are generally complying with that speed limit. In michigan, compliance is better overall. From 2017-2018, fatalities dropped 6% statewide.

Yes. The number of fatalities dropped across the state from 2017 to 2018 by about 6 percent. Overall, statewide, raising to 75 on rural interstates was a net benefit.

Excellent analysis. The whole premise of this is disingenuous. I think that the GHSA has something to do with it.

Not exactly true. According to what was published, average speeds increased by 2 mph, presumably because the slower traffic sped up to 75. 2 mph does not equal 5, so no, people don’t automatically drive 10 over.

People do not break speed limits automatically. Speed limit was raised by 5 mph. Most sections showed less than a 2 mph increase. 2 mph does not equal 5. People don’t automatically drive “10 over.”

Tghat road is SH 130 and is posted at 85 mph. According to the Texas DOT, the 85 th percentile speed on that road is around 86 mph, so not too many people are exceeding that speed limit. Having driven that roat myself. I felt comfortable at the limit and didn’t see the need to drive much faster than the posted speed.

That is much more in line with reality. Thank you.

That is false. When the speed limit was raised to 75 mph, average speeds increased by 2 mph. 2 mph does not equal 10 mph faster, or 10 over. Do math.

80 is my cruising speed. Fuel ecnomy starts dropping at 40, but at 80, I can still get low 30's. It should be up to people on how fast they want to drive.

Michigan is safer overall as the result of higher speed limits.

I can’t believe that Jalopy publishes trash like this. Oh, it’s Jalopy, I forgot. They have been parroting IIHS propaganda for years. The entire article did not take vehicle miles traveled into account as a source of the increase. In addition, statistical variations account for part of this as well. Weather plays a
