They're sorry that the tragic event occured. They are expressing regret that something happened that is causing you pain, hurt, grief, etc.

I was thrilled to see Burn Gorman too. Loved the exchange with the Graysons; that last look Victoria gave him. Oh boy.  I hope his Mr Trask  stays thru the rest of the season.
