At the risk of sounding ancient (I’m not), a Honda or Suburu or Toyota is not an American car. You can talk parts content and assembly all you want, but the tens of thousands of engineers, IT staff, legal, sales & marketing, compliance, headquarters, etc. are overseas.

Buying a cheap used car should always be the preferred route over a cheap new car. The example you’re quoting above, as he stated, is not an outlier. When you buy new, you are 100% guaranteed to pay tens of thousands in costs because, well, that was the price of the car + interest.

Math isn’t relative - being poor is makes it even more critical to be financially responsible.

It’s a greater problem with reality. For some reason, people like to envision life as a fantasy land where you don’t make sacrifices anywhere and everything is peachy. Responsible people are frugal. Irresponsible people are not frugal, suffer the consequences, then blame “the system.” See exhibit A in your post.

Wish I had more stars. This pretty much sums up this crisis in a nutshell. The new generation excuse brigade has one for every logical thing someone proposes, but it’s about being responsible with your money at the end of the day.
