I have a weird question. Why does the English language feature so prominently on Japanese consumer products? I could understand using English in tourist attractions, but a Famicom would be marketed almost exclusively to Japanese, so why there?

Try it. It's a ton of fun and the vast majority of the game can be played solo. You will get matched up with others to play Crucible and strikes, but you really don't have to directly interact with anybody.
