Lonergan knew what Affleck was accused of and cast him anyway.
Yet no one is giving Lonergan shit for it. Why?

Damon is a producer because he is a big fan of Lonergan's work. As he should be. I firmly believe Damon respects Lonergan's artistry and would have continued to champion the film if the director wanted to go in a different direction, away from Affleck.

Are you sure about this? Lonergan and Damon are very good friends. Did Damon really insist or merely suggest Affleck.

Who? I haven't seen one criticism of Lonergan for giving Affleck such a plum role.

Then why is no one attacking Lonergan for casting him in the first place?

"He was rightly shunned by the Academy and Golden Globes but then again he's Black."

Agreed.

So in other words, don't cast him at all, correct? That would be the real punishment. If Lonergan had said, "I'm not gonna work with that piece of shit."

Wouldn't that have been up to his accusers? To deny the settlement and pursue the matter in criminal court, I mean.

I'm a big Colbert fan, but he was being a little condescending in that interview.

I feel the same way about Jim Gaffigan. It's all a matter of taste.

"He's the guy who sees the unarmed black kid getting chased and beaten down and says, "But he's more likely to be killed by someone in his own neighborhood!!" He's the guy on Facebook whose default response is "Let the free market sort it out!"

The author just wrote click-bait bullshit.

Which is crazy because I remember reading somewhere that Maher is irrelevant.

I won't admit to that. I'm a Bill Maher fan and a progressive liberal.

Actually, I do know his bio. It includes a Jewish mother who never attended mass with her Catholic family and a father who quit the church after it took a firm stance against birth control. As soon as his father stopped attending, so did his kids. While they were still young.

OK. I appreciate the answer.

Maybe. I guess I just don't see it. It's like an earlier charge I read on here about how Maher claims to not find women funny. When in reality, he is a huge fan and very good friend of Sarah Silverman.

He was great in HESHER.

He brings on actual Republican members of congress in addition to representatives of the RNC.
