This is stupid. Stores should be required by law to accept cash. Last year, Rogers, one of the major internet providers in Canada went down for 2 days. Payments had to be cash at many stores, because the debit/credit machines had no internet access.

It’s not just the undocumented and unhoused, people who just are simply low income will end up having to spend more on those purchases because fees generally only hit low income for things like minimum account requirements and penalties for falling under it.
